Question:
I am planning to buy a used car. I can't decide wether I should buy a 1993 Acura Integra GS (160K) for $2400 or a Toyota Corolla DX (only 80K) for $3400. Both cars are in good condition.
I want to be able to drive the car for another 40K or 4 years or so without doing any major repairs.
I am inclined to the Acura cause it's more in my price range, but I am worried if it will go another 40K.
Answers:
Get the Toyota if these are your only choices. The Acura is OLD...and things break when they get old. Also, Japanese cars are VERY expensive to repair when they finally do break. If you are on a tight budget, and the Toyota is a stretch...Consider an American car. They depreciate faster so they are cheaper to buy used, and the repairs are less expensive when they occur. My '98 escort wagon gets 36mpg average and has had only 3 repairs in 132500 miles...and these can be bought in the $2000 range all day. Good luck with your search! Whatever you decide to buy, be sure to pay for an independant inspection by a mechanic of your choice before you purchase ANY used car. It is the best way to avoid the need for surprise maintenance/repair issues after you buy as well as gives you greater leverage in price negotiations!

go with the corolla. it's a decent car and you will be less likely to spend the extra grand in repairs.

I think both cars are fine for what you want...but I do hear good things about the Toyota Corolla DX. Either way I think you will be safe I'd choose the Corolla if you're looking for 40K miles.
a toyota will fall apart cosmetically before the engine goes.
go for the toyota, better investment, better mileage, better car...........see what happens when you drop an abomb

that Corolla engine will last another 100K with proper maintenance, it's the same engine in the 05 model (it's that good). Forget the Acura.
