always check the mileage, i part exchanged my golf gti 2.0 and it had 140,000 miles on the clock, the garage sold it for the price i gave them (£525) the car really didn't have much life left in it! poor buggers when the car was due it's next MOT. and ask about any service history and ask for documentation verifying it. and how old is the car? does the price justify the condition of the car?

take a look under the hood, if it clean it's been worked on.. good sign... if it dirty... it's a no go...
ask about the previous owners.. First u wanna pull the oil dipstick, and smell it. If it smells burnt its buring oil. Do the same wiht the tranny if that smells burnt too, thats not good. Then go to the tail pipe, put ur finger in there and see the consistancy of the oil. Is it watery? If so, you may be having head gasket problems. Also never buy a car with a small tick, cause its gonna get worse over time. Then check mileage of course and stuff like that.
