A suzuki SV 650 may be good for you.
They are relatively inexpensive, don't have much as far as plastic fairings, and aren't so high in torque or power that it would be unmanageable. Yet they are still quite capable on interstates, curvy roads, etc. You could pick up a used one fairly cheaply. If you're inexperienced at motorcycling, it would still be a good choice.
