Question:
yes. i have the ltd. infinity sound system...well only 2 speakers work the front passenger door and dash...plus the head unit works when it wants to, by that i mean lights up to see what station your on, im wanting to replace all speakers and head unit...whats the best way to do this, being that the factory system is a 2 ohm and u can't get 2 ohm speakers hardly anywhere to use that amp...should i take the wireing harness out and wire the system my self or bypass the amp some how...i was thinking that's a mighty big wireing harness under the seat where the amp hook ups come from, and that thing has so many sensors on it that i night muck something up if i take that out...i also think that the front speakers are componet speakers, have no idea where the cross over is...thanks a lot for the help...
Answers:
If you simply replace the factory speakers with 4 ohm speakers, the factory amplifier will work fine - it will just produce less power. As for the speakers being separates, or component speakers, the crossover is actually housed within the factory amplifier. Best bet if you want it done right - replace the factory radio, remove the amplifier entirely, and re-wire the speakers to the new radio. The problem may actually lie within the factory amplifier and simply replacing the speakers may not solve the problem.
