2006 Honda Civic Sedan Audio?

Question:
Yesterday I visited my local Honda dealership and the salesman said there was no possible way to upgrade the stereo system in the car (stock: 160 watt) to a better wattage system. I have talked to both Best Buy and Frys, and they told me they don't have the blueprints to do so as Honda never sent the stores the blueprints. Even if outside store could upgrade the stereo system (to after market parts), the dealer told me it would invalidate the warranty.

The Coupe Civic already comes with a 350 watt stereo, that IS upgradeable, but how come I can not upgrade the Sedan stereo.

Answers:
The consumer protection act does not allow a vehicle manufacture, let a lone a dealer to void a complete warranty. You can install any item you wish, but if the item causes issues, they can void only the system or part that is affected by what was installed. The remainder of the warranty would still be intact.

Now if they say that you cant install an item(Say a remote starter), then they have to provide that item to you free of charge. Its actually in violation of federal law for dealers to tell you that it will void the warranty, but yet they do it every day.

I have a PDF copy of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act which DEI provides to its dealers to highlights this information.
I have attached it to this post.
Now all that is covered is common sense. Dont expect the dealer to saw naaaaaasssss is a no no and you expect to get it free. This is more to the point that a dealer cannot say you have to use OEM parts only or the warranty is void.

Other Answers:
strictly b/c it would cost alot just to have your vehicle either to put in a new one, it would require an updated warranty and their just blowin you steam, or you could just say heck with the warranty and buy and install your own or keep the warranty and just not tell them and if you ever need work on it just slide the old one back in. plus tha honda corp probably doesn't have the other brands out there to put something else in for you. my advice, don't tell them and do it anyways and if you have problems just swap it back out before you turn it in to get fixed for something. you still keep the warranty and still enjoy the music. cool huh?

I would go to a custom stereo shop, not a large retailer but just a local shop in the phone book. they have the knowledge to be able to upgrade any stereo without so called blueprints. Those installers go to instalation school and can re wire anything. I have seen sedans with amps and subs from my local shops here in bakersfield ca. dont worry you just need to find the right shop, anything is possible.
