Question:
I am looking to purchase a brand new, 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. I have never purchased a motorcycle before. The MSRP online was $2999, and I was shocked to find dealers asking almost $4000 out the door (this is not the way it is in the car world most of the time).
I recently found a dealer that seems to have a good stock of Ninja 250R's on hand.
Does anyone know what the dealers pay for the bike? They tell me they only make $100 of their sale - but thats hard for me to believe. Or does anyone know what a good out the door price on a Ninja 250R is?
Thanks for your help.
Answers:
Motorcycle dealerships make between $500 & $3,000 for each sale, depending on what model. They make additional money from kickbacks from finance companys. That's why they'll get you financing with bad credit. Always get your own financing.
As for the cost of the bike, shop around and play one dealer against another trying for the cheapest price. Another suggestion - check with dealers about buying a "left over" 2005. There weren't that many changes and dealers are allways trying to get rid of last years stock. Motorcycle dealers have to pay what is called a "floor plan". They put in their orders for a certain # of each model at the begining of each year. They have to pay the manufacturers, "rent" on each bike until it is sold. After it gets sold they pay the manufacturer. They're allways rushing to sell the bike as fast as they can, so they don't have to pay rent.
Other Answers:
Just tell the dealer you only have a budget of $3,000.00 and that will be out-the-door price. It is not a bad price - I saw a year old bike with 500 miles on it for 2400.00 in Houston
