Why are Stellas and a some Vespas sold to everyone but people in CA?

Question:
It's not fair. Is there some sort of whacked up law saying you can't own a proper scooter or something? =(

Answers:
California has stricter emissions standards than most other states. There are a lot of makes and models that are not available here because they are not Air Resources Board Certified.

Other Answers:
Probably don't meet safety or emissions standards. Most of them use 2-cycle engines, which are largely banned in CA.

you should get a real motorcycle instead.

"Scooters are like fat chicks, fun to ride but you don't want your friends to see you on one." The rules for air quality prohibit scooter engines, and should prohibit motorcycles also
As to the other guy who said scooters are like fat chicks, I think he has a male ego problem.
If more Americans rode scooters instead of SUVs, we might get out of $3 gas Emission laws.
