Anyone know of any SUV's or cars that sit up a little higher out there that get almost 30MPG??? For sure????

Question:
I'm short, but have an old back injury that makes it difficult to crawl in and out of a regular passenger car. I don't like the hunched back ends of some cars for poor visibility. However, I'd really like to find vehicles that get almost 30MPG. Standard transmissions are fine, I can drive those. COMFORTable seats are important too. Anyone have any ideas??? (Oh yeah, my husband is the mechanic and prefers cars that are Chain driven instead of belt driven) Any car buff out there with some ideas of vehicles to consider??? Thanks

Answers:
I'd recommend checking out a Subaru Forester. These are only built as a wagon, but have a ride-height that's between a car and a SUV and have good visibility. These cars fall into the tall-wagon or crossover-vehicle category. Since the Foresters all have all-wheel-drive, the MPG is between 22 and 28, but comparable to the other tall cars you might want to check out like the Ford Five Hundred, Ford Freestyle (500 wagon) and Mercury Montego, which are larger cars and available with AWD. Also, the Volvo Cross-Country.

If you don't need AWD, and want higher MPG, you might try the Scion Xb with 30 to 33 MPG, and the Chevy HHR with 22 to 30 MPG, particularly if you're looking for a smaller car. There's also the new Dodge Caliber, which is a crossover-vehicle based on the Neon that's supposed to be really good. The Caliber equipped with the 1.8 liter engine returns 28 to 32 MPG

I think the Subaru uses a drive chain rather than a drive belt, but couldn't find that level of engine design detail on their site.

Other Answers:
Yes. There are three:
1. Honda CRV (will get upper 20's average and 30 on highway)
2. Toyota RAV4 with 4 cyl engine
3. Subaru Legacy Outback with 4 cyl engine

All of these will get nearly 30MPG, and all are very reliable.
