1988 Grand Prix Le..?

Question:
The jug in the rad. has a crack in it some place? I get tran's oil in the coolent.. BUT so far no coolnet in the tran's (NO fome)Why can't I just by-pass the rad with a addon tran's cooler....?? (i'v been that is no good but i still don't know why..?)

Answers:
I don't know the specifics about your Grand Prix,,, but in general, the tranny fluid is at higher pressure than the coolant.
Thus you will get tranny fluid in the radiator,if it is cracked,, but no coolant in the tranny fluid.
You could by-pass the rad. with an external tranny cooler, if there is a universal one made for your application.
You would also have to plug the holes where your tranny cooling lines go in and out of the rad., and extend your fluid lines to the new external cooler as well.
But you might be better off by just getting a new radiator, by the time you price all that out.
