It depend on what edition,If it is a regular old tacoma then it is most likely automatic 4 wheel drive.Wich means the front tires work until they spin then the back tire work if both dont get traction all four will kick in.

Wrong. They are front wheel drive. As a matter of fact, if i'm correct, there are no rear wheel drive cars made anymore, including Ford Mustangs.
yes all truck's are still rear wheel drive unless 4 wheel drive,and if its 4 wheel drive the REAR wheels are the drive wheel if the slip then the FRONT wheels engauge. it's mostley car's that are front wheel drive, but no the mustang is still rear wheel drive also.

first of all it doesnt matter if the rear slips or not, if it is 4 wheel drive, which means it can be selected frome 2 wheel drive, then, if in 4 wheel drive, hi or low, front and rear are always engaged and turning. if it is ALL WHEEL DRIVE or AWD, which is always basicly 4 wheel drive, can not be selected from 2 wheel drive, then if the rear slips the front will pull. weather or not the tacoma is 4x4 or not it is "rear wheel drive" or "RWD".
